Abstract
Integrated environmental management represents the best way to achieve the principle of environmental sustainability, and the Western Hammar Marsh is considered one of the sites with natural resources and potentials and of exceptional global value as it is within the sites of the Ramsar Convention for Wetlands and also within the World Heritage List. It provides a clear example of a human settlement that preserves its traditions and heritage, and thus reflects the interaction between man and his environment. The research problem is the current problem that the Marsh suffers from, which is the failure to apply the integrated environmental management of the Western Hammar Marsh, which prevents access to the goal of environmental sustainability. Therefore, the research imposed the possibility of shifting from the path of applying traditional management to the path of applying integrated environmental management. Which contributes to improving the ecosystem of the marsh and preserving its exceptional value to reach the goal of sustainability and to demonstrate the impact of environmental management on the sustainability of the marshes .The research focused on a number of topics related to integrated environmental management that must be taken into account in achieving the sustainability of the marshes, as well as addressing the concept of environmental sustainability and its dimensions, leading to the integration between environmental management and sustainability, Finally, the research concluded that it is necessary to shift from the path of traditional management to the path of integrated management and to apply its management to the Marshes based on sound scientific and practical foundations to achieve environmental balance and preserve ecosystems
